The people who govern our country have been elected to represent us, the Australian people.  But, do they? Or are their decisions passed through their own self-interest filter before they take action?

Our speaker this month, Dr Christopher Reynolds, is convinced that our governments could be so much better.  He will re-visit the foundations laid down for our country and compare it to today's reality.  His talk is titled:
Our Constitution - The government we voted for is not the government we got

Chris states "The Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act of 1900 was first drafted by Andrew Inglis Clark of Tasmania. Of his proposed 96 clauses, few were changed and 80% of our Constitution today comes from that one man. However, there was a conspiracy and the supremacy of the King (Crown) was replaced with the supremacy of the parliament. There is no such thing in our Constitution as a Prime Minister, yet, as we have recently seen, the PM is the person who decides everything for our nation from royal commissions, internet access and support for the Palestinians."

We have a problem.

Come and hear Chris as he explains the mess we are in and what can be done about it.

Dr Christopher Reynolds is the author of "What a Capital Idea – Australia 1770-1901".  It's educational, controversial and highly entertaining.

Chris's career has spanned high school teaching, a Bachelor of Divinity at Melbourne University (studying philosophy, theology, ancient history, biblical studies, Greek and Hebrew) a PhD at Claremont College, (political science, political philosophy, constitutional law and ethics). He went on to hold positions with the U.S. Congress and Senate, working in the senior position of Senior Professional Stall for the Senate Committee on the Judiciary and the House Committee on Children, Youth and Families. He wrote Mitch McConnell’s first legislation. Returning to Australia, Dr. Reynolds took up the position of Executive Officer for the New South Wales Minister of Roads, Ports, Public Works and Darling Habour. Moving to the private sector, he wrote the Grim Reaper AIDS Campaign and then, working for Network Communications, had contracts with five of the divisions of BHP. He then became the Executive Director for the World Trade Centre, Sydney.
